In order to help boost their range, many electric and hybrid cars employ regenerative technology where braking energy is stored in the battery instead of simply being wasted. This idea can also be applied to electric-assist bikes, but what about bicycles of the plain old human-powered variety?

But in recent years, with all the other major players leaving the segment, Kawasaki has enjoyed unchallenged sales success with its sharp-looking, yet friendly Ninja 250.

This bicycle is the first in the world to be created simply by printing it out on a computer, using groundbreaking new technology. The fully-working cycle, which is made of nylon, is the result of an extraordinary project and is as strong as steel and aluminium but weighs 65 per cent less. Scientists in Bristol designed the bike on a computer and sent it to a printer, which placed layers of melted nylon powder on top of each other to build-up the machine.

Trends 2017-2018

In de vorige uitgave van ons trend blog hebben we de sciense-fiction trend geïntroduceerd en deze zet door. De fascinatie van de mens om in het vuur van de toekomst te staren en hierdoor gefascineerd te blijven, gaat voor veel veranderingen zorgen. De tekst: 'kennis is macht' geld al lang niet meer want Google 'weet alles'.Men verliest de banden met het verleden en strekt zich uit naar een onzekere toekomst. Dat die toekomst niet meer maakbaar is en daarmee dus in zekere zin een enigmatische vorm krijgt, gaan we zien op alle gebieden van de menselijke samenleving.
