You rarely see me posting products on Ceramicist. But I really love this collection and its story behind it.

It belongs much more to the Arts&Crafts than Interior Design. It is a furniture collection but fusing manufacturing and craftsmanship, and I believe the hand-woven bamboo elements to be the key player here. Though function wise you could probably argue it’s more of a furniture piece. Japanese studio Nendo teams up with Singapore based company industry+ and creates 22 exclusive pieces. Local artisans in the Philippines helped to craft hand-woven bamboo rattan baskets and back rests for a small chair range.

The bamboo’s elastic properties make it ideal for such things as back support. It is also used as a design feature, for instance: the table legs going right through a layer of bamboo, or the entire table itself actually encased in bamboo rattan, says Nendo.

I saw my very first Nendo snow capped mountain installation more than a couple of years ago when visiting the Stockholm furniture fair. He is a master of great installations. Did you see the chocolate wavey lounge for the past Maison&Objet earlier this year?
